Orange spiny whitefly

Aleurocanthus spiniferus

Orange spiny whitefly (Aleurocanthus spiniferus) is an insect pest of citrus. It is a native of Asia and was first detected in Hawaii in 1974.

Weakness in citrus and poor fruit quality is a result of the disruption in photosynthesis due to sooty mold forming on the honeydew from this pest.

For more information about this plant pest, see the CABI data sheet.
