European spruce beetle

Dendroctonus micans

European spruce beetle (Dendroctonus micans) is an insect pest of spruce trees. It is a native of Europe, Siberia, and Japan.

This is the largest European bark beetle. It infests wounded trees, primarily Norway spruce, Scots pine and larch. This is just one of many forest pests that are moved to un-infested forests by movement of firewood.

For more information about this plant pest, see the CAPS data sheet and the CABI data sheet.
